I picked the Model for Doctoral Research and Writing. Something new I thought about was my concern with choosing a topic that will have the right fit for myself and my professional life for the next 3 to 5 years (or longer). I would like to make the journey practical to my professional and working situation but can it be fluid enough to adjust to potential changes in focus that may happen along the way. I would like to make sure I start off right in building that coherent long term focus so I can maintain my motivation. I also want to balance that with getting started in a timely manner. Finally, I have concerns about balancing the work load with my current work and life obligations, which is why it is so important that the topic I choose will also fit with those other priorities.
